Mission

Widespread implementation of Youth for Human Rights and United for Human Rights Programs, resulting in adults and youth educated about Human Rights.

Vision

We work toward a world where the rights and dignity of all communities are known and respected.

Values

We as Youth for Human Rights believe that everyone has rights and all should be treated equal in our communities. Education is the primary tool we use to forward our message, where we can change people’s views on all peoples no matter their background or where they come from.

HISTORY OF HUMAN RIGHTS

Originally, people had rights only because of their membership in a group, such as a family. Then, in 539 BC, Cyrus the Great, after conquering the city of Babylon, did something totally unexpected—he freed all slaves to return home. Moreover, he declared people should choose their own religion. The Cyrus Cylinder, a clay tablet containing his statements, is the first human rights declaration in history.

UNITED NATIONS UNIVERSAL DECLARATION OF HUMAN RIGHTS

The stated purpose of the UN is to bring peace to all nations of the world. After World War II, a committee of persons headed by Mrs. Eleanor Roosevelt, the wife of US President Franklin D. Roosevelt, wrote a special document which “declares” the rights that everyone in the entire world should have—the Universal Declaration of Human Rights. Today there are 192 member states of the UN, all of whom have signed on in agreement with the Universal Declaration of Human Rights.

JOIN OUR TEAM

Our team works together getting the message out into the community. We organise events that include many different cultures, faiths and validate the good that people from these communities are doing to uphold the message of Human Rights. We are always looking for people who can lend a hand, whether it is for one hour a week or ten hours, everyone is welcome.

“It isn’t enough to talk about peace. One must believe in it. And it isn’t enough to believe in it. One must work at it.”-Eleanor Roosevelt
